Hyundai Repair: Check engine light / sputter, hyundai accent, head gasket

I went to take my husband to work this mrning and my hyundai accent gl 1999 sputter while i took of and boom the light of anxiety came on. Any idea what this would be? My husband thinks a head gasket, my dad th8inks bad gas, and i think it needs to fix itself!! lol HELPP!!

Checking the diagnostic trouble codes will help me be more certain of what's happening with your car.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll read the codes for free.  Once you have the code numbers, follow up here with them and I can provide you additional advice for diagnosis and/or repair if necessary.

Since you say the car is sputtering, I'd primarily suspect that you have a misfire.  While there are many potential causes for a misfire, the vast majority are caused by secondary ignition problems (spark plugs, plug wires, coil).  So you should start your checks with those components.

The trouble code for a misfire will be of the form P030x where x is the number of the misfiring cylinder.  P0300 represents a random misfire or a misfire on multiple cylinders.  With this information, you can inspect the specific spark plug, the specific wire, or the specific coil that could be causing your problem.
