Hyundai Repair: 1999 accent alternator follow up...again, battery terminal, negative terminal

Question
hey man, me again...i tested the connector from the positive battery terminal to the alternator with the ignition on, and one lug measured approximate battery voltage, and the other measured 11 and change...so am i to assume that there is a problem with that harness...or is it something else?
and between the alternator case and the negative battery terminal voltage measured 0...
no charging system light comes on when i turn the ignition, either....thanks again

Answer
I'm guessing you meant to say that you measured the voltage between the two terminals in the connector and the *negative* battery terminal.  Even if you have a problem, I'd be surprised if you got the results you did if you measured between them and the positive terminal.  If you did measure between the connector terminals and the negative terminal, the readings you have are fine.

If the above is the case, I'd like you to also check the voltage between the main alternator lug (the bolt-on terminal on the alternator) and the negative battery terminal with the engine running when the voltage across the battery terminals is less than rest battery voltage.  If you have the same voltage between the lug and the negative terminal as you do between the two battery terminals, then the alternator is not charging.  Presuming this is the case, and the other readings you report are as I surmised above, the alternator is defective.
