Hyundai Repair: ROUGH IDLE AND CHEC ENG LIGHT, sante fe, secondary ignition

Question
HELLO  CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ROUGH IDLE AND NO POWER  2.7 V-6 67000. MILES  03 SANTE FE    BAD GAS?  COIL? PLUGS?  THANK YOU

Answer
Since you've got a rough idle, I'd primarily suspect that you have a misfire.  Most misfires are caused by secondary ignition components (plugs, wires, coil), so I'd look there first.

Your best bet to get good information about the problem is to read the trouble code(s) stored.  AAMCO and AutoZone have advertised they'll do this for free.  Codes of the form P030x indicate misfires, where x is the number of the misfiring cylinder.  P0300 indicates a misfire on more than one cylinder or a random misfire.

If your problem turns out to be with the spark plugs or wires, you should replace both the plugs and wires at the same time because of the difficulty involved with replacing the plugs and wires on the rear bank.
