Question
I have an 2002 hyandia accent 1.6L stick shift my check engine light is on and i believe it is one of the two o2 sensors ive checked the resistance and got a 11.6 ohms on the sensor before the catalytic converter and a reading of 9.6 ohms on the sensor below th catalytic converter, what are the proper readings?

Answer
I've also read your additional information that you have read the trouble codes, and they are P0036 and P0038.  These both refer to sensor 2, bank 1.

Oxygen sensors are numbered beginning upstream at the engine and down the exhaust toward the tailpipe.  Sensor 1 would be the closest to the engine.  So in your case, since you have two sensors, sensor 2 is the downstream oxygen sensor.  Banks are numbered with bank 1 being the bank with the #1 cylinder.  In your case, since you have an inline four cylinder engine, bank 1 is the only bank you have.

The most frequent causes of codes like yours are either that the oxygen sensor is unplugged or that the wiring for the sensor has been damaged (possibly by the drive axle).  If you need to diagnose further, you should check to see that you're receiving power and ground to the oxygen sensor heater.  Install a voltmeter between terminals 3 and 4 (pink/black and orange wires) and verify that you get battery voltage when the key is turned on or the engine started.  If so, the problem is in the oxygen sensor.  If not, you'll need to investigate whether it's in the wiring or the ECM.
