Hyundai Repair: 99 Sonota- Pulley Problem, sonota, ballpark figure

Question
power steering belt squeaked, broke, engine/belt still squeaks.  mechanic said it was a pulley problem that he could not fix. whenever he tightens the pulleys, the squeaking stops for a few days, maybe a week, and then starts again.  is this a common problem? do you know a ballpark figure of how much it might cost to fix a "pulley problem"?
THANK YOU!

Answer
Not knowing what the specific pulley problem is and what needs to be done to correct it, it's difficult for me to say how much it might cost to fix.  Depending on which engine you have, you have any number of pulleys that could have a problem.

The fact that your power steering belt broke is rather troublesome.  This doesn't happen very often.  If the belt broke for any reason other than age, you'll want to find and repair the root cause so it won't happen again.

Furthermore, if your mechanic cannot fix this pulley problem, you'll need to take the car to another mechanic who's qualified to diagnose and repair whatever your problem is.  The fact that he says he cannot repair the problem makes even his diagnosis suspect.
