Isuzu Repair: Rough Idle and no OBDII, intake leaks, hook ups

Question
Chasing down an intermittent erratic idle on a 96 3.2L.  Unable to find a code reader that can read my OBDII.  Typical reader response "Unable to connect".  Any OBDII peculiarities with the 96?  I was thinking it was a transition year?

In the meantime I'm out checking for intake leaks.

Answer
Well the OBDII readers that can be purchased at any local auto parts store are really only good for reading codes and clearing codes. Nothing more. What you need is an actual diagnostic machine that has several different hook-ups and calibrations that can scan and diagnose what the REAL problem is. I think shops charge around 40.00 to hook your car up to a machine but it is worth it.
