Question
hi me  howard hope things are well. i have a 85 jag xj6 i have replace 3 transudicers in trans. is their something that would short them out every time i replace it. it works a few weeks and go out again can u// help.

Answer
Hi James,

I don't know of any common problem of shorting out causing them to fail. The only common failure I have seen was that the wires leading into the unit seem to vibrate and flop around a lot and the wire breaks inside the insulation up close to where it enters the unit. On a bad unit cut the wires off about an inch from the unit and strip the insulation of each wire, then with a pair of pliers try to pull the bare wire out of the unit. If that is the problem, you will be able to easily pull the bare wire out of the insulation. Most that I found broken were broken right at the point where the wires enter the unit.
