Jaguar Repair: 1984 XJ6 rear brakes, rear brakes, tie wire

Question
Howard,
So my XJ6 is up on stands awaiting the reworked fuel tanks, and I thought this a great time to rebuild those leaky rear calipers. What troubles me is the use of the tie wires through the caliper bolts and I have to ask if you really feel they are necessary. I know every bit of prevention is good, but isn't it sufficient to torque the bolts to spec, maybe with a bit of thread lock compound? Did you replace these wires in your own practice? I know dealer service may have required it, but at home, is it really necessary?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Michael,

Murphy and his law always follow me around and if there is a bolt that is drilled for tie wire and I didn't wire it, that would be the one bolt that would come out and bite me in the ____.

Also my aircraft background requires me to put tie wire where ever I can.

But if you know better than the people who drilled the holes in those bolts, it's your bolts.
