Jaguar Repair: 1987 XJS, wheel boxes, heater control valve

Hi Howard. I read your answer about the heater control valve. I believe I have tracked down my heater problem to the valve also. My question is, how do I get to it? I can't get to the bolts that hold it to the firewall. I also thought of just taking the hoses off the valve and hooking up my new valve to them just to test it but I can't get to the hose clamps on the valve. Any suggestions?

Hi Jim,
I have not worked on the "S" in many years but as I remember you have to remove the wiper arms and the nuts holding the wiper arm wheel boxes and several bolts that hold the fresh air grill  and remove the fresh air grill to gain access to the small bolts that hold the heater valve mounting plate to the firewall.
