Jeep Repair: 89 Wrangler 2.5L Throttle Body Injection, fuel pressure regulator, clogged catalytic converter

Question
I have an 89 wrangler with a 2.5L.

My problem is as follows. The jeep starts fine and idles fine. In 1st gear i get to 2000 rpm's and the jeep bogs down. until I shift into 2nd gear. Then the jeep bogs down @ 2000 rpm's. Same thing happens with 3rd 4th and fifth.

It is always @ 2000 rpm's

I have done the following.

Changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor. I replaced the coil as well but same problem so took it back.

Replaced fuel filter and idle speed actuator. Jeep idles great but still the problem exists.

Any ideas on this?

Any input you would have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Answer
Hi Robert,

A clogged catalytic converter, improperly functioning EGR system, defective fuel pressure regulator or defective ECU (Electronic Control Unit) could all cause the symptoms you're describing. Testing equipment for this stuff isn't usually in the tool box of most do it yourselfers so you may consider having a diagnostic performed if you've got a reputable shop in your area. If you have access to the stuff I would certainly look at these things.

Hope this helps,

Kenji
