Jeep Repair: Jeep starting problems, jeep grand cherokee, fuel pressure solenoid

Question
I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee,(65000 miles)about 6 months ago it started dying in traffic or if I came to an intersection. I took it in to the dealer, said that I needed a fuel pump. I Purchased fuel pump from Auto Zone, had it installed. Now the vehicle will not start on the initial key turn from cold or if it sits for more than an hour, but it will start on the second try. I have replace the relay, cam sensor, new battery, check the filters, no change. Once started it runs great. Can you tell me what is missing. I mentioned it to the dealer, they want me to leave it overnight because they say it cannot be diagnosed if I just drive it in

Answer
Hi Tony,

Usually drivability problems are a bit slow to be solved at the dealer so they're being honest about telling you they need it for longer than you probably want to wait. I'm not that familiar with the Grand, I've had CJ's and XJ's but my first reaction is to  suspect the fuel pressure solenoid if it's equipped with one. It seems like the fuel rails could be "dry" at cold start up or after it has been sitting for a period.

Let me know how it goes Tony, I can do some Grand Cherokee research if we need to.
