Land Rover Repair: four lights a-glowing

Question
My check engine light is on. It is saying on the diagnostic- transmission. My starter went out. They think drops of transmission fluid leaked on the starter, destroying it. They say it will happen again.

But additional to that, three other lights come on sporadically if I hit the brakes too hard. But park it and come back to it and those three lights will go off.

Previously, I had some major work done on it, but these problems persist to even before the repairs.

I'm beginning to wonder whether this auction purchase might not cut the mustard. I knew there would be some fixes necessary. What can you tell me?

Answer
The check engine fault code must say more than just "transmission."  It should have description and a code number, such that you can look it up in the workshop manual and see what it refers to.  There is no generic "transmission" fault code.

I don't know how transmission fluid can leak onto the starter, being as the transmission is behind the starter.  Maybe your starter just failed?

The three lights are probably ABS and TC warnings.  Find someone who can read the codes from the ABS/traction control and see what's up there.
