Land Rover Repair: 2004 Disco - Overheating, head gaskets, radiator hose

Question
While driving my Disco on the highway, temp guage went up and started to lose power. Temp needle went to red, engine light came on and I immediately pulled over. Local garage fixed radiator hose from recovery tank to throttle body unit and also replaced water pump. Didn't drive it for more than 15 minutes and started to overheat again. I had it towed to the LR dealer. They stated that anti-freeze leaking from the heads and be listening to the engine that the block was wrapped. Diagnosis new block $10k. Spoke to some other mechanics and they stated only way to tell if block is wrapped is to pull heads and measure. Disco know for problems with head gaskets.

Any input to help me sort this out would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Unfortunately, Land Rovers are not at at all tolerant of overheating, and internal damage is all too common.

Here is a link to an article on block failures that I wrote a few years ago

If you go to the Robison Service website and select Service > Land Rover > Advice you can find longer articles on overheating diagnosis.

The $10k answer is likely the truth.
