Land Rover Repair: Cant release the gear box, land rover discovery, automatic gearbox

Question
John I have a 95 Land Rover  Discovery LE. My Clip came off from the shifter box and is such a joy to try and get back in. So I just clipped the wire (So I could get my Key out) and have left it. I tried to pull the 4 wheel drive shifter into neutral so I could tow my Land rover and it won't go into the neutral setting of the bow. My transmission shifter works fine. Drives great, no problems anywhere else except trying to release the all time drive. Is that clip the problem and can I go around having to have it reinstalled. Can I just cross up the wires to make it happen?

Answer
Hi Humphrey,

so you clipped your park neutral solenoid wires?  I don't know if crossing those wires would help. Reconnection may be your only option...

There is a safety feature that prevents the transfer gearbox from shifting UNLESS the ignition is switched ON AND the automatic gearbox selector is in neutral "N".

Also, I do know that if you've rarely used transfer gearbox shifter, it's possible that it can lockup on it's own.  I was told to shift this at least once ever season (4 times a year).

I hope this helps,
