Land Rover Repair: 2003 Land Rover Discovery Oil Pump Rebuild, land rover discovery, rod bearings

Question
Bought used 2003 Land Rover Discover 2 with 154,000 miles on it.  Changed the oil and a week later the oil light began coming on at low rpm's.  Was told these cars had oil pump problems so rebuilt the oil pump and discovered the original gear set was broken.  I have also replaced the oil switch and installed K & N oil filter.  Still getting an oil light at idle only.  At about 800 rpm, the light goes out and remains out until idle again.  Should I change out rod bearings since that is easy and see what happens?  Or should I look elsewhere for the problem?

Answer
With what you did, there seem to be two possibilities.  One, the front cover has too much wear and the oil pump therefore cannot make enough pressure.  The second possibility is wear in the bearings.  When we have pump troubles we change the whole front cover because I have never had success fixing them but your experience may vary from my own'
