Land Rover Repair: AC Condensation Leak, land rover defender 90, land rover defender

Question
Thanks John. Info you give refers to a Disco which I also have :) I did have a problem with a blocked ac drain (twice) which flooded the footwells. I remover both rubber boots (for lack of a better word)
However, the Defenders condensate hose if flowing freely. Im 100% sure of that. Im leaning towards water flowing down on the inside of the insulation and dripping out at the lowest point. The vehicle is new and since the dealer cant fix it I guess they will have to replace the AC. I have friends with new Defenders and they dont have that problem.

Question -
Hi John, Its not the condensate drain hose as thats flowing properly. The drip is coming from the opposite side where insulated  refridgerant pipe enters the casing. I can only assume the hole is not sealed properly and condensation from inside the casing is finding its way to that point on the inside and leaking down the line.
Let me know if you hear of a similar case.

Mark

Question -
Hi John, I live in St. Lucia in the Caribbean and recently purchased a Land Rover Defender 90. From the day I took deivery there has been an AC leak on the passanger side. Its not coming from the condensate drain side but the side where the refridgerant pipe exits/enters the AC casing. The insulation is wet and I have no doubt the water is dripping from that area. Have you come across this problem before? I would appreciate any advise as to how to stop the constant leak. The dealer has had two attempts at fixing it but needless to say they did not manage to.
Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

could it be that drain hose that is plugged.  Up here in Canada, AC is used for only one or two months max...so I am not an expert at this.  I've heard though that there is a drainage tube that can get clogged and water backs up and leaks into the interior.

Let me look around and I'll get back to you...

NB: Strange that the LR dealer does not know about this...especially in St-Lucia!

Hi Mark,

here's a useful website that might be of help to you:

www.discoweb.org

Try the bulletin board section and search for water leaks.

I've always thought water in the passenger area was either the "water ingress" problem from the windshield, a frame post leak OR the condensate drains.

"...Crawl under the vehicle and look up high on either side of the bellhousing. You'll see two, little rubber teats that are the condensate drains for the A/C units.

These harden with heat and age or get plugged up with gunge. Massage or snip to open - just be prepared for an armpit-full of funky water. Worst case scenario, it has to be 'rodded' to open the blockage".

Some have used metal coat hangers, others have simple cut the tips open.

I'll look around for more info and let you know if I find anything.

Answer
Hi Mark,

strange the dealer does not swap out the condensor and be done with it.  Clearly, there is something wrong in the free flow of the system to have that much water running into the interior.

Hope the dealer does the right thing.
