Land Rover Repair: smog (emissions test fail), smog emissions, machanic

Question
My landrover has failed smog because the check engine (among some of the other lights)light is stuck on. Ive been asked for $500 to start looking for the problem. The machanic seems stumped. Please,I just know this must be common for this model or someone might know what I should do. PLEASE HELP

Answer
Hi Mike,

there could be a number of causes that triggered the CHECK ENGINE light but have no way of knowing from where I'm sitting.  Your best bet is to find an independent LR shop and have them perform the diagnostic tests to determine the cause(s).  You could go to Advance auto and have them read your OBDII codes - that may help you in your quest to find the cause(s) of failing the emissions test.

If you are not certain of where to find an independent LR shop, send me an email and I'll try to find a couple for you.  Include the model, year and city you want to have the vehicle serviced.

Best of luck,
