Land Rover Repair: no spark, starter solenoid, crank sensor

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 lr discovery 3 and im getting no spark i installed new crank sensor.the security light does not light up i have not dtc's stored.

ANSWER: Hi Emmanuel,

no spark - usual suspects:  coil pack, crankshaft speed/position sensor (CKP), camshaft position sensor (CMP), engine control module (ECM), Body Control module (BCM), ignition switch, immobilisation system.  Since you replaced the CKP, you could probably ignore this, unless this part too is faulted.

Before you buy more parts, determine if the ECM getting power from the battery and functioning.  You may have to have the ECM checked out to see if it's working. Then you can have the various sensors tested as to input/output signals from the ECM.

Best of luck,

Emmanuel, does the engine at least turn over?  IF not, check the main lead wire to the starter as this can get soaked with road grime, oil, water and prevent the starter solenoid from working properly.

QUESTION: thanks for the help.yes the engine turns over no spark i had the ECU checked the guy said the coil drivers were good and nothings burned inside.im working behind someone else another mechanic i was told by the customer that after he tuned the car up and put a coil on it it wouldn't start.

Answer
Are the mechanics using a Testbook, Omnitec/T4 or Autologic to perform their Land Rover testing?

You'll need some detailed diagnostics to find out what's going on here and I suspect it could be the either the ECM or your immobiliser security system is involved.  LR diagnostic devices should be able to see the faults.

Best of luck,
