Land Rover Repair: discovery td5 year 2000, discovery td5, salvage yard

Question
Hello I have a very big problem , 2 weeks ago my battery went flat, some one helped me to start it with another car, that was perfect, But 2 days after I got in the car and 3 of the yellow lights on the control panel came on , I took it to local mecanic and he could not help me he sent me to land rover dealers, they put it in the machine and reprogrammed it an lights went of , 2 day after lights came on again, took it to land rover and they have just phoned me and said that the module of the ABS is broken and that it can´t be repaired , i need to change it , a new one cost 1950€ , can you give me your opinion. ( that is only the part then i would have to pay the work.)
many thanks in advance  Teresa

Answer
If indeed the vehicle needs an aBS control unit, you should be able to purchase a used one and install it for a small fraction of the sum you mention.  Here in the USA those used controllers are probably $100-200 in a salvage yard.

The used controller will definitely work . . . there are some controllers (like the one for the engine) that can't just be swapped but this one and the SRS controller can.  We do that here because the price of new parts is unreasonable and they seldom fail
