Land Rover Repair: flashing m & s on dash, neutral safety switch, park position

These codes flash and my disco 2, 2001 seems to change shifting
patterns and now won't recognize reverse or park on dash and can't get
key out of ignition.  Help!  Ryan

Hi Ryan,

usually this problem can be attributed to either the park/neutral switch & harness, a gear selector fault OR the brake pedal switch.  

The neutral safety switch and harness has been known to fail due to water getting inside.

If you have trouble with the key - perhaps it could be the brake pedal switch.  Check to see if your brake lights work.

The ignition key interlock solenoid prevents removeal of the key when the transmission selector is not in the Park position.

Lastly, the gear selector could be in need of adjustment or perhaps a circlip has poped off within the shifter of the centre console.
