MG Car Repair: fuel filter, carburetter, usa spec

Question
hello sir,i have a 1979 mg.it does not start.i have tested the flow of gas in my fuel pump and both sides of line.gas flow ok,but no gas in fuel pump.can i spray starting fluid in an stromberg carb.,if so were at.how do you test the fuel pressure from fuel pump.

Answer
I assume that your fuel pump ticks when you turn the key.  If not, you have a faulty pump.

If the pump ticks, the ticking should slow and then stop as the fuel lines fill up with gas.

How far is the fuel getting?  I suggest that you start at the carburetter and work back.  Pull the hose from the carb, turn the key, and fuel should start to flow.  If not, try again at the fuel filter.

The 1979 MGB to USA spec. has a fuel cut-off valve.  Copy this into your browser and look at part #58

By the way, I strongly advise you NOT to use starting fluid.
