Land Rover Repair: Power steering water broke, power steering fluid, roverparts

Question
Hi,
I bought a 2002 disco with 69,000 miles...drove it home 2,500 miles and the power steering started whining. I topped it off with power steering fluid.. Then one day I went outside, hopped in to start and vavoosh.. It was like the water broke..All the fluid that was in the system just cleared out.
I don't have a shop here as I am out in the desert... Do you recommend a parts place I can order a power steering unit? Is this a do- it - yourself job at home? otherwise I have to get it towed to China... it truly is quite a distance.
What parts and components are needed for a power steering repair? Also would appreciate a highly recommended a thorough ( including illustrations for dummies) visual learner  .... book or repair manual..or bible.. I could use that to swear on...
Thanks and hope I can tackle this job..

Answer
Most power steering blowouts are the hoses, not the pump.  You could order a hose kit from Atlantic British, www.roverparts.com and get it shipped to where you are.  If the problem is more complex Land Rover has a web site, www.landrovertechinfo.com where you can buy daily/weekly/monthly access to all the service data for the vehicle.  That gives you everything a dealer technician has.
