Land Rover Repair: p38 stuck in 2/3rd gear, auto diesel, rangie

I have a 1995 p38 auto diesel RR, that will not change  gear.When the gear lever is in p, r and n no problem, but when its put into d, 2 or 3 the screen on the dash and the red light next the gear lever still show p or r or n. It will drive but only in one gear 2nd or 3rd will not go up or down the range.

Hi Lynda,

the most common problem with this is a faulty gear selector mechanism.  Fortunately, a good local automatic transmission shop should be able to help you.  Otherwise, take your Rangie to the dealer and they'll correct the poorly-adjusted gear selector.
