Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Discovery Battery Warning Light, land rover discovery, warning light

Question
Hi,

Our Land Rover battery warning light has been coming on intermittently over the last few days.  It was initially definitely connected to acceleration but then today it stayed on continuously for about 20 miles, and went off completely after that.  Well, not completely, it´s very very dim.

The electrics in the car are terrible, we´ve got dodgy indicators, the fan doesn´t work and we´ve had to replace various wires etc.

A belt was making a noise whenever we turn hard round a corner and the battery light has always come on then as well.

Is this the alternator, a belt problem or something else?

Thanks

Answer
Check the belt - make sure it's tight.  Make sure the wires are tight on the back of the alternator.  If those two things are ok, you are 99% sure to need an alternator.  Get a new one or a genuine Bosch rebuilt. The off-price rebuilds are just junk in my experience
