Land Rover Repair: low range diff lock, land rover dicovery, linkage problem

Question

disco We just bought a 1996 Land Rover Dicovery V8 3.9 Auto.
The only problem we have is: when you engage low range diff lock it jumps out. If you hold it there with your hand it stays engaged. What can the problem be? PLEASE HELP !!!!

This is probably a linkage problem, where the lever is not moving the linkage fully into the low range.  The first thing I would do is oil everything really well in there and make sure it's moving as it should. If you still have a problem it would then be in the box but 99% of the time these things are in the linkage
