Land Rover Repair: A/C blower doesnt work all the time., land rover discovery, john robison

Question
Hello John, my name is YeVonne; I have a 1999 Land Rover Discovery I.  Sometimes I start my car and everything is fine - the AC blower (heat) works just like it's supposed to. But sometimes the blower won't work at all on any fan speed ( the defrost doesn’t work either). If I turn it on and off a few times, or turn off the engine and then restart it, that sometimes fixes it and then it works on all speeds. Usually that doesn't fix it. A few times I left the fan switch set on 1 and after about ten minutes it started working so I was able to turn the fan speed up to an appropriate speed and it worked fine. Sometimes nothing makes it work. And one more thing - once the blower is working properly, it has never stopped working on that trip in the car. Sometimes the next trip would have the problem though. However even though the fan blower isn’t working cold air will come through the vents when I start driving, even though the fan isn't blowing. Please help me:-).

Answer
Nine times out of ten, blower problems like yours come from a partly melted contact in the AC control panel.  You have to get a whole new panel if that's the problem.  You can take it out and examine it - usually the melting damage is visible.  New panels are sort of costly ($400 or so) but you may find a used one for less.

Good luck with it
