down but not forward and back.how can I fix this

Answer
Hi Aaron,

yes, it could be that the rear window has lost its track.  You'll have to remove the door panel to see if this is the case.  A common problem for Disco windows is that the glass track guides can become corroded and either break off completely OR the corrosion warps the rail and it becomes hung up on something.

When you remove the door panel, be careful not to pry too hard. It is held on by plastic button clips that can break OR even rip away from the foam padding (door panel).  Use a tool specialized for prying (found in most auto shops) and gradually work your way around the door.  Small steps and don't be forceful is the trick.

Once the panel is off, use a flashlight to peer into the door cavity and locate the bottom of the glass.  If the rail is broken, it will be lying at the bottom of the door.  IF so, you'll have to purchase a new one from the dealer (who may want to sell you the entire rail system).

As for the driver seat, you may have to remove the switch and perform some cleaning.  A LR owner once wrote:

"The job requires nothing more than a knife to cut apart the foil adhesive that holds the switch assembly together and a hemostat or tweezers to place all the bits back in their correct location. Brighten all the contacts up with emery paper while you are in there. It's a fiddly job that you won't want to repeat anytime soon"

Make sure to do this cleaning over a box so as to trap any parts that may fall - bearings.

Most owners agree that cleaning the switch can help.

Best of luck,
