Nissan Repair: auto gearbox not changing gears, nissan pulsar gti, national warranty

Hi there, I just got the auto gearbox in my 1991 nissan pulsar gti (sr18de) changed. before i got the swap the car would go into reverse and first and second gears only. with the new gearbox it has the same problem. I have been told it could be a solenoid problem, any suggestions to fix this problem. cheers..

I would say the computer that shifts the transmission is not working correctly.  I would not think two transmissions would do the same thing unless the computer was defective or a harness is screwed up or a sensor is defective.  If the overdrive light flashed it is a dead giveaway that the computer is registering a problem and that means that it would need to be scanned.  Cottman Transmission has been good to me on many cars and they have a national warranty.  But, they will check the trans for free and let you know the problem.
