Land Rover Repair: Air Suspension Compressor, land rover specialist, initial failure

Question
For:  2000 Discovery II

Last year, my suspension lost air.  I inspected the rear bags and they were fine.  Never got a fault code though.  After looking at the compressor, I couldn't tell if it was the actual compressor, switches, etc.  I have since left everything intact except for replacing the bags with springs (kept them), and plugging the air lines.  I haven't had anyone change the computer to reflect this and the dash idiot light has only come on for a brief time or two.  I am not real crazy about the springs because of the squeeks and I'm considering going back to air.  I know the bags are okay, as well as the lines,...I used an external compressor and inflated them and they held up.  Is there any way to rebuild the compressor myself or a way to test it to see if the compressor is actually the cause of initial failure?

Second problem:  How can I get to the rear dor power lock?  It's not working as of yesterday and I don't want to tear anything up trying to get to it.

Answer
I would strongly suggest you abandon the idea of rear air suspension.  The systems become more and more troublesome as they get older and the moving parts wear out.  And you can't service them unless you have one of the special Land Rover test systems.

It is possible to have a Land Rover specialist recongigure your SLABS computer so the car won't give the air suspension error message.

If by rear lock you mean the back door won't open - pry out the Land Rover oval on the handle and shoot penetrating oil into the hinges and mechanism.  That should get it open.  Oil it up good, including the latch at the door edge.

Also oil the hinges and oil the inside of the rear gate at the bottom, on the slider.
