Land Rover Repair: Rookie, discovery models, mechanical knowledge

I have been looking at older Discovery models for several months now.  There's no question about their ability in any condition, yet every time I'm ready to  pull the trigger I'm reminded by the mechanical nightmares--something for which they're also well known.  The official term for my mechanical knowledge is NIL!  Be honest with me John, will I just get in over my head?

I have no way of knowing if you'll get in over your head.  That depends upon your expecations and budget.
