Land Rover Repair: Land rover disco 1 remote programing, land rover discovery, door latch

Question
Here is my problem I have a land rover discovery 1 (1996), I bought a new remote; I follow all the instructions to set the remote like:

1.   Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked, hood switch depressed.
2.   Carry out instructions 3. To 9. Within 8 seconds.
3.   Switch ignition ON.
4.   Switch ignition OFF.
5.   Lock doors.
6.   Unlock doors.
7.   Release hood switch.
8.   Switch ignition ON.
9.   Switch ignition OFF.

If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and LED will light. It is now possible to program two handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU. This must be carried out within two minutes

here is the problem after I do all the steps the horn never sound and the led never light, so Here is what I did, I did check first my hood switch and I replace with a brand new one (original LR), now if I lock my car and release the bonnet switch my alarm goes on.. so the switch is working, now here is another thing that is happening when I push the locks from inside the led never goes on, but If I used my key from outside my led and my alarm is good, I don’t know what else to do, thanks for your time. By the way  since I’m using the key to lock the car the horn never sound again, but the led comes twice and the alarm is good.

Answer
Bonjour Suliban,

I suspect that the problem may now be within the door latch.  Perhaps your key can trigger the alarm switch properly HOWEVER the lock button cannot do this.  The key, when turned, rotates a tumbler that touches the security switch.  HOWEVER, when you lift up the lock button, this connect does not happen.

Perhaps you need a third person ... have the third person lock and unlock the doors using the key.  Maybe that will work during the re-programming sequence you used above.

OTHERWISE, like the hood switch, you'll have to repair the old latch security switch.  This is common with our aging Disco's.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
