Land Rover Repair: Freelander Power Loss, alternator problem, maf sensor

Question
Hi I have a Freelander 1998 2.0 Diesel. Recently it has started lossing power so I changed the MAF sensor but the problem didn't go away. I have also disconnected the MAF sensor but still the same. I have noticed that the problem happens mainly when I switch on my lights and also if I drive over 70 mph. I am soon giving up on the Car. Any advice would be greatly apprecaited!!

Answer
Hi Steve,

don't give up just yet... you could have a alternator problem, a fuel injector problem, a fuel pump timing problem OR a combination of all these.  What moved you to swap out the MAF?

Turning on the lights causes engine power loss?  Alternator would be my first guess.

Power loss over 70mph would have me guessing an injector or fuel pump problem.  Maybe there's an electrical short in the pump.

Best of luck,
