Land Rover Repair: 99 Land Rover Discovery II overheating, land rover discovery, land rover discovery ii

Question
How is it that my Discovery II runs like a champ during the hot Texas summer months and as soon as it gets cool and the heater turns on it leaks all the antifreeze out and overheats?  Land rover said to replace the head gasket.  I did that two consecutive Octobers to the tune of ~$2500, and decided to do something different this past fall and add about a gallon a week until spring.

Answer
Hi David,

3 headgasket job?  That's a strange one.  Odd that the experts at the LR service department you 'frequent' cannot solve this. Gee, I guess they like your company and want you back every October?

Has to be a blockage of some sort.  Have the radiator pressure tested.  Could be a blockage within the rad or the engine block.  Maybe it's within the heater core - that same buildup from the rad could have found a home in the core (heater matrix).  You'll have to have this system tested to see if it flows properly.

I doubt it's the water pump or a temperature sensor.  Seems isolated to the heater core.

Best of luck,
