Land Rover Repair: Unexplained engine shutdown with acceleration, intermittent fault, luck john

Question
Hi there, Thanks for this service.
My problem related to a MY02 Freelander SE (2.5L V6 Petrol).
Since about 82000km it has developed an intermittent fault
which usually occurs between 300-400km travel (highway) when
the engine seems to run a little rough especially when
accelerating then performs a shutdown. Have taken to my dealer
but the EMS does not report any codes.
- occurs with an unchanged engine temperature
- runs smoothly in the couple of 100km up to this point
- can do 200km in one direction, wait then return without
noting any problem
- restarts without any issue once left for 10 minutes and is
typically trouble free for another couple of hundred kilometres.
- regularly serviced, run on Premium ULP

As above, notice particularly with acceleration and unfortunately
today when overtaking double semitrailer. Did occur for first
time today at approximately 60km/hour without acceleration.

Answer
If no fault codes are set anything I say is just a guess.

Rather than guess why don't you talk to your service agent.  Make sure they have an Autologic or T4 system.  Assuming they do (you need a properly equipped shop to fix these rigs) drive the car till it screws up and then take it to the shop right away and put it on the tester and watch the live data.  If you put the test system on it while acting up you will be able to read the sensor data and probably see your answer.

The only other suggestion I'd offer is to make sure your scheduled service (spark plugs, air filter, etc) are up to date but I'm sure you already did that.

Good luck,
John
