Land Rover Repair: 96 Land Rover Discovery, land rover discovery, engine controller

Question
Vehicle will not start...I suspect it has something to do with the alarm system. I have tried disconnecting the battery, in hopes of  possibly rebooting the system.

I have tried locking and unlocking complete vehicle but to no avail. I was involved in an accident about six months ago, wherein I sustained small amount of damage to the drivers door.

Note: I'm currently experiencing a drumming sound emanating from under the hood. Can I disconnect the alarm system to resolve the problem.

Can you give me a jump start?

Thank you,

John Ontiveros

Answer
If the alarm system has lost synchronization with the engine controller the truck is never going to start until it's hooked up to the Land Rover test system and synchronized.  There is no home or field remedy for that condition.

It does not sound like you are getting anywhere as you are.

If possible I suggest towing it to the dealer or a specialist with Autologic or T4 because they can hook the tester up and in munites they can read all the crank and run parameters and the problem should be apparent.  You could chase it forever without the proper tools.
