Land Rover Repair: Disturbing clicking noise emmantating from/around left wheel when turning, mechanical perspective, proud owner

Question
I am the proud owner of a 1996 Disco SE7.  About 3 months ago I
began experiencing an intermittant "clicking" noise coming from/
near the left wheel.  It is only noticable when turning and
sometimes not even then.  I can also "feel" the noise if that makes
any sense.  I'm sure how to explain that any more precisely over
email.  I spoke with a friend and hobbyist mechanic about this
noise and without looking at it, he felt the CV joint/housing was
definitley my problem.  I know very little, next to nothing, about my
Land Rover from a mechanical perspective and so I'm writing for a
much needed second opinion.  Thanks for any clarification and
guidance you can provide.

Answer
Hi Brent,

I had to replace my CV joint a few years ago.  I recall that it began with a soft clicking noise that eventually became worse.  The noise really became loud when I made U-turns in my driveway.  It cost me $2500 to repair at the LR dealer.  Next time, I'll try to tackle this problem myself.

The only way to tell if it really is your CV is to remove and inspect it.  Look for worn edges on the smaller axle.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
