Land Rover Repair: gear jam, park position, brake switch

1997 disc.  My gear is stuck in the park position. It happend suddenly, it was working fine all day then near the end of the day it jammed.  what might be causing this?.  oh by the way it comes out of park every so often if i give it a few tugs. anyway what do you think it could be

The brake switch, located under the dash above the brake pedal, has probably failed.  In emergency you can unplug it and jump with a paper clip to get out of park.  Remember that you won't have any stop lamps either if this switch is bad.

It's a common failure.  Land Rover built the truck this way to draw your attention to the failure.  If they had not done so you might have ended up driving around with no stop lamps till someone rear ended you.
