Land Rover Repair: Stategy to deal with engine codes, throttle position sensor, highway robbery

Question
Hi there
I have a Disco '95 which I am moments away from setting fire to...I wish!
I have a problem that I have seen described in this forum and I am still struggling with it. My CE light has come on with Code 19 Throttle Position Sensor and Code 21 Fuel Tune Select Resistor.

At the same time my engine started idling really rough bouncing between 500-1000 rpm.

I have cleared the codes but they just bounce straight back up after running the motor -the problems are here to stay!

I would really appreciate any advice you may have regarding a strategy to try and figure this out - I really don't want to have to throw it at the dealers highway robbery scheme but it is starting to look like my only alternative!
Thanks so much!

Answer
Why would you think clearing the codes would accomplish anything?  The codes are there because there's a problem.  Fix the problem.

In the workshop manual (which you can access online for a small fee at www.landrovertechinfo.com ) you can read the tests for the throttle sensor and the tune restisor circuit.  Do the tests, and find and fix the problem.
