Land Rover Repair: 2000 LR DISCO II LOCKED GEAR SHIFTER, light fuse, light sockets

Question
Mr. Robinson,

I request your advice before I take my vehicle in for repair (particularly to LR dealership).

Here is the scenario.  After driving over 150 miles yesterday without any noticealble inication of a problem I parked my vehicle for the night.  This morning it was driven without inciident from my home to a destination approximately 2 miles away.  Returning to vehicle 20-30 later my vehicle starts with no issue, however, my vehicle will not shift out of park.  I had it towed home to see have it sit and seek assistance from your someone as yourself before it is determined that it is definitely a matter for a certified mechanic or should it only be taken to a LR dealer mechanic?

Thanks for any info you can provide to resolve this myself.

Answer
I seem to be asked this question regularly.

1 - Brake light fuse may be blown.  If so, you may have a short in your brake light sockets - check them

2 - The brake lamp switch, located above the brake pedal, may have failed.  You can unplug and jump with a paper clip to get out of park.
