Land Rover Repair: reset service engine soon light on a 2003 freelander, obd ii scan tool, freelander se3

Question
Is it possible to reset the service engine soon light on a 2003 freelander se3 without making a trip to the dealer?  ive done all the web research and cannot find anyone that knows how or if its possible without a dealer trip. I was gonna try disconnecting the battery again to reset everything (just changed battery when light turned on, then had to tighten a nut on the battery and the engine ran better than before but light is still on)...also, will this light turn off after a couple days if engine is fine? The dealer told me there's no way to reset it without the dealer, but i would like a 2nd opinion..i know the disco has a pinhole reset , i was hoping the freelander had one too, thanks for your time!

Answer
Why do people assume that the response to a light coming on is to "reset it?"

Warning lights were not fitted to annoy you.  They were fitted to tell you there's a problem.

The light is on because the engine management computer has determined that there's something wrong with the way your motor is running.

Since you don't want to go to the dealer, any shop with an OBD II scan tool should be able to read the code, and you an go to www.landrovertechinfo.com and buy a day's access to figure out what to do about it.

The dealer or a Land Rover specialist is going to have better equipment and more knowledge to sort out whatever is wrong.  Keep that in mind and choose your repair facility carefully.

Good luck
