Land Rover Repair: Landrover TD5 difficult cold start, diesel filter, diesel pump

Question
Hi,

My Landrover TD5 Defender has 180000km on the clock. It does not smoke neither use oil and run very well. It has neen serviced at 10000km intervals

My Problem.
It has a problem starting during winter. The temp not lower than 10degrees. I have replaced the following already
1, Injector seals and o-rings by Landrover Dealer
2. Glow plugs (Self) 11.4 volt to glow plugs
3. Diesel pump (LR)
4. No return diesel filter (white) at diesel filter pipe. (self)

No problem to start again after idling for 10 seconds.

Hope you can put me in a direction. My Disco 2 TD5 has no problem

Answer
Hi Nico,

here's the general problems that cause difficult cold starting:

1.  Battery faults - discharged, terminal connections loose or corroded.
2.  Preheating system is faulty.
3.  Wax forming in fuel.
4.  Fuel cut-off solenoid is faulty.

Hope this helps,
