Land Rover Repair: range rover service engine light, emissions systems, maintenance reminder

Question
I have a 1998 range rover and the service engine light came on at about 82500 miles. Is this something that needs a dealer's attention or is there some other way to get the light off, or does something need attention? Thanks

Answer
Hi Jody,

its usually a reminder that you should have the emissions systems checked. It is otherwise known as an "emissions maintenance reminder.  This is reset using a diagnostic computer at your local LR dealer.  Its the CHECK ENGINE light that can raise your heart rate and force you to immediately grab hold of your wallet.

You can take the Rangie into a dealer to have the light reset.  On the Discovery, an OBDII reader can reset this light, however, I don't think it can be done on the Rangie.  You can go to a local Advance Auto shope (or any other auto parts store) and see if they'll reset it for you.

Here is a website that describes the two lights I've just mentioned:

I believe that on your Rangie, you have to have the 'testbook' to reset the light.  It will appear every 82000 kms or intervals thereof.

Best of luck,
