Land Rover Repair: Mechanical Problems with Discovery 2, land rover discovery, 2003 land rover discovery

Question
I purchased a 2003 Land Rover Discovery and have
had many problems with the vehicle.  My main problem is an engine miss with a transmission shifting problem between second and third.

I have taken it back to the dealer a number of times and they have not resolved the problem.  What do you suggest? I noticed on you forum someone else had the very same problem what do you recommend?

Answer
Hi Vaughn,

Since your Disco is still under warranty (?) and you are not satisfied with the service you are having with your dealer, you have three options that I can think of.

1. You take your '03 Disco to another dealer and have them try to solve the problem.

2. You escalate your complaint to Land Rover head office in your country.

3.  You can seek help from governmental or private consumer agencies.

Collect all the work orders that have been generated for this problem and determine the exact dates and number of times you've had the Disco serviced FOR THIS PROBLEM.

Armed with these facts, use a cool head and state your case to LR head office.  Write down who you speak to, date, time, what they will do for you, keeping a solid record of facts at all times.

We all hope that no lawyers get involved in this but you must keep your facts straight and accurate, just in case.

Clearly, you have a complaint and it must be addressed before the warranty expires.

IF all else fails, you could use option 3 and contact your country's "Consumer Protection" agency, Governmental or Private (ie. Better Business Bureau).

I was once told that if service work is performed and you suspect that the problem is not resolved, you should write on the service bill (above your signature) that you are NOT satisfied with the work performed and IF you have to sign, write UNDER DURESS....and your signature.

In your case, BEFORE you pay the bill, take the Disco out for a drive to make sure the work was performed and the problem resolved.  You've been at this dealer for a few visits on the same problem, so the service manager may understand your position. Escalate your complaint within the dealership and if the problem is still not addressed, then look to the other options mentioned above.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
