Lexus Repair: Brakes & Timing Belt Replacement, timing belt replacement, montville new jersey

Question
Shoudl the timing belt on my 1998 Lexus be replaced at 90,000?  If so, what parts do you recommend replacing with the timing belt (water pump, etc.)?  Should I use original replacement parts or are aftermarket parts OK to use when I can?

As for the brakes, do you recommend cutting the rotors or replacing them with each brake job?  Should I use original or aftermarket parts?  What additional parts do you recommend replacing besides the pads and rotors?  When or how often should I flush and replace the brake fluid?

Is there a do it yourself book that you can recommned for the 1998 Lexus ES 300 for maintenance and repairs?

Thanks again.

My 1998 Lexus ES 300 raido LED is not working properly.  Some numbers are scrambled.  How do I remove and repair the raido?  I do not see any screws that hold the radio on the dash or anyway to remove the faceplate.

Next, when I make a right turn, the center interior dome light comes on.  I do not see a way to adjust the door contact light switches for each door switch, is there a way to adjust them or should I just put a piece of cardboard behind them to see if that helps them make better contact to keep the light off.  The indicator light on the dash comes on as well as the dome light for a brief second when making a right turn.

Thanks again

Hello, As stated in our bio we are not giving step by step instructions on repairs but the radio problem you are having is not repairable. It needs to either be sent to the radio manufacturer for repair or just replace it with a aftermarket stereo. As far as the door switch  you may be able to adjust the door latch to take up the slack, if not it may be the door switch.

Answer
Hello, Yes, the timing belt needs to be done every 90k miles. As far as additions I would inspect all seals and replace if needed, replace the water pump, and replace the outer drive belts. The brake rotors can and should be resurfaced every brake job. Once the rotors get to the minimum thickness then the should be replaced. Brake fluid should be flushed every 30k miles. As far as aftermarket parts there is a wide range and most are not very good. I would try the Toyota dealer for your parts and this way you can save money over buying them from Lexus.
