Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Blower fan for heating and air, Blower, resistor.

I have 1981 Mercury Zephyr Z7. My question is: The blower fan control only works on high. What is my problem and what can I do to correct this problem also the automatic console shifter the button you push to change gears broke does the shifter have to be replaced or can that button be repaired.

Most likely the blower resistor is bad. It is mounted on the blower case on the passenger side, usually held in by 2 - 5/16 screws. When you take it out, inside it'll have has several spiral wires.

Honestly can't remember for sure on the shifter, but normally you can take those apart to replace parts. Although it being an '81, you won't be able to find those small parts by themselves. I would go to a pull-a-part yard and see if you get lucky. Call ahead to see if they even have older cars, as allot of yards these days only keep the newer ones.
