Mazda Repair: 96 mazda miata mx5, clutch master cylinder, mazda miata mx5

I am having trouble with the clutch it is loose and hard to shift. i am told it may be either the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder. how do i find out what it is and how would i go about fixing it. it is a 96 mazda miata mx5

Hi Crystal,
I had the same problem on a 96 MX5 a few months ago. The problem turned out to be the seals on the slave cylinder. However, the problem could be caused by the master cylinder as well. To determine which is causing the problem you would have to dismantle either one and have someone pump the clutch and check for smoothe movement. If everything appears good in either one than the other is the culpret.
