Mazda Repair: Mazda MX-3, mazda mx 3, j spec

Hello Randall,

I have an MX-3 (actually an Autozam AZ-3) import from Japan. It is a 1500cc in-line 4 inj 16v manual - currently on 60,000mls. I need to replace the steering rack and want to know if a UK spec part will serve as direct replacement. I have been told (dubiously?) that only an import part will suffice.
To the best of my knowledge there has been no previous history with regards to the steering.

Incidently the syptoms of the problem are:

approx 2" of play in the steering
steering wheel is not centered (although not pulling L or R)

Your help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at the end of my tether.

well i wouldnt know if a UK spec part will be the best replacement for a J-spec vehicle if you could findout the specs between the UK part and the J-spec part and possibly compare them then do that. but if your vehicle isn't having any more symptoms then i would say just to leave it alone right now there's nothing too serious going on right now.
