Mercedes Benz repair: 1985 Hood, hanle, vise grips

QUESTION: The hood on my 1985 will not unlatch and the cable hangs loosely in the car. Is there any way to unlatch the hood other than the cable?

ANSWER: take a pair of vise grips and grab the loose cable and pull

QUESTION: The cable seems to be broken as it just pulls out. Is there ant way to unlatch from the outside front?

Answer
no not without ruining kinking your hood or chromegrille. Try undoing your drivers whhel well maybe you can use a flashlight to see where the cabl;e is broke from otherwise  take off your bottom console and try to get a hold on the broken end. If all else fails you will have to crack your grille and try prying up on your hood while unlatching it chances are your catcvh mechanism is stuck unless there is just major slack in your line then the whole hanle etc would already be pulled out
