Mercedes Benz repair: fuel door, albuquerque new mexico, mercedesshop

Question
1980 Mercedez 450 sl 96000, Albuquerque New Mexico
The fuel door refused to open.  The catch somehow got stuck and we had to go into the trunk to release it manually.  Where does this "wire" sit so it functions properly?
Also, the car will lock automatically upon closing the driver door.  How can we prevent this from occurring?

Answer
Answer:
The locking issue may be a mechanical lock system failure.

The fuel door or power release mechanism may have failed.
The secondary pull cord is behind an access panel or passes through the panel, varies between models.
This device can fail electrically and/or mechanically.
You need to remove the inner trunk panel.
Use a test light to determine if there is power reaching the release mechanism.
If there is power, replace the release mechanism.
