MG Car Repair: 1979 mg, fuel pressure gauge, hose connections

i sir,i asked you about get fuel from the pump to the carb.im getting gas to my filter,but not past.i took off the filter and ran the line direct to carb.it started right up,so i bought i new filter.it started right up again.letting it run a bit,i went to do stuff in the small garage. it died,and now it is back to not getting gas to the filter,with the filter on.

You need to put a "T" in the fuel line close to the carburetor and attach a long hose to a fuel pressure gauge and run the gauge out from under the hood (bonnet) and put it under a wiper arm so you can watch the gauge when driving. (Be sure to put clamps on all joints of the hose connections)
You need to watch the gauge as the engine dies to see if the pressure goes down FIRST before the engine quits or if the engine quits first then the pressure goes down. You should see from 1.5 to 3 PSI at all times. You should have the fuel filter between the fuel pump and the "T".

If it does not maintain 1.5 to 3 PSI at all times you need to remove the fuel line from the pump that comes from the tank and lower it down to a can and note if fuel runs freely out of the line. If you have a good fuel flow from the tank then the problem is the pump.
